The Family Day Fun Fly was a good success.  We had a good turn out with lots of flying. Chief Chef Blackie cooked up a good batch of jambalaya and everyone enjoyed it.  There were a few crashes and one went down in the parking lot.  A Ford Explorer suffered minor damage and the plane was destroyed.  This brings up a safety point; when there is a large group flying it is a good idea to keep track of who is flying and where.  It is unknown exactly why the plane broke to the right on take off and did not respond to left turn.  No one was injured, but the owner of the vehicle was on his way to get something out of it.  I saw the plane go right on take off and did not realize it was coming down.  It simply appeared to be climbing out ok and flying over the building.

The annual Big Bird Fly-In has been re-scheduled to Saturday, September 25th.  CD Mike Goetzman will be recruiting ‘volunteers’ for this event.  More on this later.

In the last newsletter I wrote about the automatic glow drive I put on the YS-91.  It worked perfectly.  The engine was started without using a separate glow battery.  After setting the glow driver to match the glow plug the indicator light showed the glow driver turning on with every exhaust stroke.  I got a little too much confidence in the reliability of the engine. About 10 minutes into the flight at the top of a stall turn the engine died.  The wind flopped the plane over and it went straight down (destroyed).  Oh well… back to the workbench.

After reviewing the copy of the rules that I enclosed with the last newsletter we discovered that it was an old copy.  The main difference is with the provision for helicopters to fly the same pattern as airplanes when both are in the air.  The rest of the rules were about the same.

See you at the field!

We are still having the presentations after the meeting.  If you have something you want to present then by all means let us know.  The last list I saw was getting short.
